We all know them, we see them as we drive to work, as they lug their huge bags of recycleables up hill or along our streets; informal recyclers are a South African landmark, we have come to accept them as part of our every day lives, but how much do we really know about them - and what they need.
These are the questions that started to haunt Panu Chetty a few years ago when she noted them rummaging through bins for items they could recycle. Today, she and a group of friends drive around on Friday mornings helping these men and women by providing them with clothes, bread, and shoes.
Our mission is to acknowledge those less fortunate like the recycling guys by giving a loaf of bread each week. We are saying ...we see you , we know how hard you work and we would like to help you in some way.

Below she speaks with Sam Cowen about the work she is doing to assist the recyclers in her neighbourhood, and calls on South Africans to get involved.
She is currently running a shoe collection drive - collecting shoes for men, women and children- if you can help, contact Panu on her Facebook page Ubuntu on Wheels.
Thank you Panu and your team for all that you do - active citizenry at its best!
